The World Handicap System (WHS)

WHS utilizes a “Net Double Bogey” calculation to limit the number of strokes a player may use per hole in GHIN for the purpose of calculating a handicap index.

Net Double Bogey = double bogey + handicap strokes a player receives for course handicap

          For example:  4 (par for hole) + 2 (double bogey) + 2 (dots on card) = 8

For players who have not established a handicap, the calculation below is used.

Maximum hole score = par for hole + 5 strokes

          For example: 4 (par for hole) + 5 strokes = 9

All league play scores will be posted to GHIN by the Scorecard Manager.

For non-league play, members must post gross hole-by-hole scores in GHIN.

In addition to the limit on scores per hole, there are other processes (the Hard Cap and Soft Cap) included in WHS which prevent the movement of a handicap index drastically up. These processes are applied within GHIN and you will receive a notification from the system if they have been used.  These processes may result in a corruption of your handicap index if significant errors are made when posting to GHIN for non-league play.  Please notify the Handicap Chair if you believe you may have made such an error posting for non-league play so that it can be investigated and corrected if necessary.
